Over the last few years I have begun to go substantially lower in weight with most of my compound exercises. I made this choice due to lack or progression after many years and little nagging injuries from heavier weight I.e inflammation. My main focus with squats is to utilize and isolate my glutes and hamstrings throughout the transition of movement. I believe this this is the most effective strategy for hypertrophy training. Come to a dead stop and push through your gluts, using your quads to stabilize at the top of the movement.
